Sometimes, in organisations that set the Geolocation option on a check-in/out method to Prevent check-ins in excess of allowed radius a carer will encounter a message like the one below (though this is a rather extreme example).



There are a few things the carer can try that may improve things:

  1. Turn Wi-Fi on.  Even when not being used for data transfer the phone can use the names of local networks to enhance location services (in fact more modern versions of android offer to do this with Wi-Fi turned off).
  2. Stand near a window.  GPS works by getting signals from satellites.  The less there is between the phone and the satellites the better.  If being by the window doesn't immediately work then...
  3. Just wait, without moving the phone.  It takes a while, especially with an old phone, to "find" the satellites.
  4. Open a map on the device, such a google maps, this will show the current location and if need be prompt the carer to turn on their location services
